The Mentalist is a police procedural television series which was created by Bruno Heller. He is also the executive producer of the show which premiered on September 23, 2008 for CBS. The show revolves around the life of a paid consultant for the California Bureau Investigation named Patrick Jane.

Starring Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, he plays the role of a consultant of the fictional department of the California Bureau of Investigation or CBI. Patrick is not an officer of the law or is a police or any sort, but he was hired for his skills and knowledge. He was a successful psychic medium whose ability is used by the CBI agents to help them solve various cases. Patrick accepted the job in his desire to give justice to the murder of his wife and daughter.

Patrick Jane once had a lucrative career and was almost at the peak of his career as a psychic consultant. When he was guessed in a television show, he claimed of his paranormal abilities and he did helped the police to determine a serial killer named Red John. This revelation did not make Red John happy. Red John reacted with Patrick’s revelation by murdering his wife and daughter as part of his revenge. Though Patrick admits that he sometimes fakes the effects of his paranormal abilities, he agreed to team up with CBI to help them track down Red John copycats.

Also starring in The Mentalist is Robin Tunney as Teresa Lisbon, Tim Kang as Kinball Cho, Owain Yeoman as Wayne Rigsby, and Amanda Righetti as Grace Van Pelt.
