This episode was aptly titled ‘Red is the New Black’ and even though the Chinese mob story took up a larger portion of the episode, it was the ever riveting Red John story arc that really grabbed the attention as another piece of the puzzle was showcased.

There was more than one murder case to deal with in this episode and they were frightening to say the least. They found the victim’s body with a golden feather in between the lips. This was more or less Jane’s territory and it was a challenging on as things did not seem to be working out for him. At some point it looked as if he was not going to get to the bottom of the case and it wasn’t even him that got their as it were but Lisbon who caught the model.

Lisbon was only reflecting what was on the minds of most viewers when she said to Jane that he was losing touch. He did make a strong defense when he said knowing the criminal was not the point as long as he knew the methods to apply in fishing them out. Their back and forth has always been one of the highlights of the show.

It turned out that it was the model Sonya that committed the act and it also turned out that she was a very sick person. Grace got to know of Wayne becoming a father and she rally handled it well. At first she showed about it with him but when she saw that he was under some kind of stress over the matter she immediately became the trusted and reliable friend. It did seem kind of awkward that she should be having such a conversation with someone she had previously dated but it goes to show the kind of person she is at heart.

It was the second murder story that caught most of the viewer’s attention because it was a Red John territory. Agent Darcy listened to Jane’s theory about the murder and threw everything into the nearest trash can. She really didn’t buy what Jan was trying too hard to sell. But Wainwright’s reaction when Agent Darcy told him that h was reopening the case really raised more than an eyebrow. He may have some legitimate reason for looking so agitated but it was altogether extremely suspicious. He may also be hiding something and this was giving more credence when he started doing his best to make sure that Jane and Lisbon were as far from what was happening as possible.

But he should have been more worried about Agent Darcy because she was the one making the hug discoveries. Jane too was quick to get the FBI and CBI involved in the case. He wasn’t busy marking his territory and this could be a pointer to how seriously he takes the Red John affair. This was a Red John episode even if it did not take as much screen time as some fans would have wanted. Darcy went to see Rosalind and Red John is aware of it. He may have tailed one of them but the big question would be who he really tailing and the answer to that could be a pointer to his next target.
